The holiday season is an incredibly magical time of year. Twinkle lights, warm fires, delicious food, fuzzy blankets, community festivities, and lots and lots of family time. The bustle and cheer help usher us into the cold and dark of winter, “softening the blow” so to speak. And we tend to get carried away… buying gifts, attending engagements, traveling, sugary foods, and ALL THE booze. By the time New Years rolls around, we feel bloated and sluggish and a New Year’s resolution sounds like the perfect anecdote.
While we at Devine Chiropractic hope you and yours have a beautiful holiday season, we are more excited about helping you out of that post-holiday slump. Chiropractic adjustments aid in the detoxification process. Proper alignment allows the body a greater ability to flush out accumulated toxins and return to a state of health.
Chiropractic can’t fully detoxify your body on its own, but it should be part of your detox tool kit. As you work to cleanse your body of the ramifications of a well-spent holiday, you should also look at nutrition, hydration, exercise, and the different types of chemicals in and around your home.
Stick with organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible to limit your exposure to pesticides. Not only are fruits and veggies full of vitamins and minerals, but they also contain fiber which promotes healthy elimination.
Hydrate, Hydrate. Hydrate. Try and drink ½ your body weight in ounces every day. More water if you are active.
Get moving. Exercise not only is good for the cardiovascular system, but it promotes detox through sweating and gets lymphatic fluid moving!
Your body is incredibly intuitive and “should” work like a self-cleaning oven when it comes to the occasional celebratory over-indulgence or environmental assault. When we overdo it during the holidays, the body may need a little help to get back to center. If you are feeling fatigued, experiencing gastrointestinal issues, have unexplained weight gain or weight loss, or reduced mental clarity- it may be time for detox, and we’re here to help!
