Pregnancy changes your body quickly, and many expectant mothers deal with back, pelvic and hip discomfort. Form & Function Chiropractic offers gentle prenatal chiropractic care in Lake Oswego, with Dr. Jeff Devine adapting technique to each trimester. Chiropractic care complements prenatal medical care and does not replace it.
Common concerns during pregnancy
- Low back and pelvic pain
- Hip aching
- Rib and mid-back tightness
- Difficulty finding a comfortable sleeping position
The Webster Technique
The Webster Technique is a gentle, pregnancy-specific approach that focuses on pelvic balance and sacral mechanics. Its purpose is to support comfort and pelvic function, not to change the baby’s position. It is coordinated with your OB or midwife.
Care by trimester
In the first trimester, adjustments are very gentle and often focus on rib and upper back mobility. In the second, pelvic and sacral balance becomes more central. In the third, visits may be more frequent but lighter, aimed at comfort, sleep and preparing for labor. Read more about Webster Technique and trimester-specific care on the main clinic site.
After the baby arrives
New parents often feel strain from feeding, lifting and carrying. Learn about postnatal chiropractic, and see our pediatric care for infants and children.
Helping with sleep and daily comfort
Many expectant mothers tell us that sleep is the hardest part. A pillow between the knees, a supportive position on your side and gentle movement during the day can help. We also look at how you sit, stand and lift at home and work, because small changes can reduce strain on the pelvis and low back as your center of gravity shifts. Dr. Devine can suggest simple stretches that fit your trimester.
Preparing for labor and recovery
In the third trimester, visits are aimed at comfort, sleep and getting ready for labor, and Dr. Devine coordinates with your OB or midwife. Practicing comfortable positions, staying active within your provider’s guidance and keeping a support person informed can all help. Afterward, many mothers return for care as feeding and carrying put new demands on the neck, shoulders and back.
What your first visit looks like
Your first visit includes a health history and an exam of the spine, pelvis and ribs. Technique is adapted to your trimester and comfort level, and Dr. Devine explains his findings and a plan. X-rays are used only when they are clinically warranted. If you are comfortable doing so, bring a list of questions for your OB or midwife so we can coordinate.
When to get medical care first
Contact your OB or midwife right away for vaginal bleeding, fluid leakage, severe abdominal pain, decreased fetal movement, severe headache or vision changes, or any symptom that worries you.
