Home / Chiropractic Services in Lake Oswego / Pediatric Chiropractic in Lake Oswego
Children are active, and their bodies are still growing. Form & Function Chiropractic offers pediatric chiropractic care in Lake Oswego, from the newborn stage through the teen years. Dr. Jeff Devine uses much less force than adult care, scaled to the child’s age and development, and parents are welcome to stay in the room.
Infants
For infants, we look at upper neck mobility as it relates to feeding and latch, a preference for turning the head one way, flattening on one side of the head, and difficulty with tummy time. The exam is gentle and is often done with the baby held by a parent. Techniques use extremely light, sustained pressure.
Toddlers and school-age children
Toddlers may be seen after a hard fall or when they favor one side or seem stiff. School-age children may have posture concerns, and parents receive tips on backpacks and sitting positions. For injuries, see our main clinic page on pediatric injury care.
Teens
Teens can have sports injuries, growth-related joint stress, and neck and upper back strain from screens and studying. Our sports injury care and neck pain pages explain more.
Working with your pediatrician
Dr. Devine works alongside pediatricians and refers out when needed. Chiropractic care does not replace medical care for issues such as fever, breathing trouble or serious injury. Read more on the main clinic site about gentle, age-matched adjustments.
Everyday habits that support growing bodies
Backpacks, screens and sports all shape a child’s posture. We suggest carrying a pack on both shoulders with the heaviest items close to the back, taking breaks from screens, and sitting with feet supported. Variety in play and sport helps too, since repeating one motion all year can overload young joints. If your child complains of pain that lingers more than a few days or limits play, an exam is a reasonable next step.
What your first visit looks like
Your visit starts with your child’s history and an exam. Dr. Devine explains what he finds and recommends care if it is appropriate. Parents can stay with their child throughout.
When to get medical care first
Call your pediatrician or seek emergency care for fever in an infant, trouble breathing, a serious injury, persistent vomiting, extreme sleepiness or any symptom that worries you.
