About Tigard
Tigard is a Washington County city of 54,539 people (2020 census). It sits south of Beaverton and north of Tualatin. The Tigard family, led by Wilson M. Tigard, settled the area in 1852, it was renamed Tigard in 1907, and it incorporated as a city in 1961.
The John Tigard House is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the Washington Square mall is also in town. Major roads include Interstate 5, Oregon Route 217, Oregon Route 99W and Oregon Route 141, which is made up of Boones Ferry Road and Hall Boulevard in Tigard.
Life in Tigard and what your body feels
Tigard’s calendar is busy. Cook Park hosts the Tigard Festival of Balloons each summer during the Portland Rose Festival, and the shopping and office areas around Washington Square keep many residents commuting or working long hours.
Desk work, driving and standing on hard floors all add up. Patients tell us they notice tight shoulders, stiff necks and sore low backs by the end of the day. Dr. Devine looks at how you sit, stand and move, and builds care around what he finds.
Chiropractic care for Tigard patients
Here are some of the conditions Form & Function Chiropractic sees most often from Tigard patients. Care is always based on an exam, and Dr. Devine will tell you if another type of provider would serve you better.
- Headaches and migraines: Some headaches begin in the neck and upper back. We check for those contributors and talk through daily habits that may help. Sudden, severe or unusual headaches need urgent medical attention.
- Shoulder pain: Shoulder trouble can start in the neck, upper back or the joint itself. We assess the whole chain so care addresses the source, not just the sore spot.
- Low back pain: Back pain is one of the most common reasons people call us. Dr. Devine looks at the spine, hips and the way you move, then combines adjustments with guidance on posture and activity.
- Neck pain: Stiff, sore necks often come from desk work, driving or sleeping awkwardly. We look for the joints and muscles involved and build a plan to restore comfortable motion.
- Pinched nerve: Irritated nerves can cause sharp pain, tingling or weakness. We look at the spine and surrounding joints and explain what we find in plain language.
We also provide car accident care, sports injury care, prenatal care, pediatric care and wellness care. See all services and conditions.
What your first visit looks like
Your first visit with Dr. Devine starts with a conversation about your health history, what brought you in, and what you want to get back to doing. He then performs an exam, explains what he finds in plain language, and recommends a care plan. X-rays are taken in the office only when they are clinically warranted. Adjustments can be done with several techniques, including Diversified, Activator, Drop Table, Torque Release and SOT, so you can choose a gentler approach if you prefer.
Dr. Devine has practiced for more than 25 years and trained at Palmer West Chiropractic College. Co-owner Jodi Black is a nutrition coach, and the clinic also offers Erchonia laser therapy and rehab and physiotherapy options for patients who need extra support.
